A NOTE FROM THE TEACHER

Happy new year, everyone! We had a great first week back, students still remembered school expectations and routines, and were very interested in learning about our 3rd polar animal, the narwhal! Please ask your child to teach you about the narwhal's body, where it lives, its babies, and what it eats!

A reminder that there is no school next Tuesday-Thursday, and the following Monday. I will be out of town to lead a training in Eastern Washington on language learning. We will have school Monday 1/13/25, and then see each other again on Tuesday 1/21/25!

We will have parent-teacher conferences at the end of January to discuss your child's progress. Please click here to schedule a 25min meeting with me, in-person or over Zoom.

Now that we are over half the year and students know routines and expectations, I will also start speaking and prompting students to speak and respond more in Vietnamese!

  • Hello/Good bye! Chào (person's name)!

  • How are you? (Person's name) khoẻ không?

  • Yes, Dạ có

  • No, Dạ không

  • Can I please have ______. Xin (person's name) cho con _____.

  • Thank you! Cám Æ¡n!

  • I want ____, con muốn _____.

    I like _____, con thích ______.

We will also learn more songs and chants in Vietnamese to grow their language! To prepare for Tet, this will be the song we will start practicing:

Theme: Polar Animals

  1. There are many types of polar animals in our world! This week we will learn about the penguin!

  2. Polar animals adapt, or change, so they can live in colder climates. We will learn about their body parts and how the parts help them survive.

  3. Polar animals are amazing creatures. We will learn fun facts about the animals in our different centers.

Math: Recognizing and Writing Numbers

Students have been doing well with orally counting numbers. We will be practicing recognizing numbers, writing numbers, and knowing numbers in Vietnamese and English!

Art/Science/Social Studies

We will create art projects related to winter and penguins.
