WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Themes: All about Me!
We will continue practicing routines and procedures while learning about each other’s families and interests! We will do this through Circle Time, center activities, books, and songs!
Literacy
We will start practicing different strokes for letters: lines, slants, circles, curves. We will also explore the letters of our first names and practice recognizing our name.
I will be sending home "Name Puzzles" for your child to practice identifying the letters of their name. Usually students recognize and write capital letters more easily, then lowercase. The puzzles with animals are names with capital letters and the puzzles with lowercase are names with lowercase letters.
Next week we will start our "Letter of the Week"!
Math
We will practice counting in English and Vietnamese from 1-10 in various ways: number of students voting on our question of the day, people in the room, objects in front of us and more! Here is a video to help your child learn their numbers in Vietnamese!
Shape of the Week: circle, vòng tròn
We have been practicing making circles with our bodies, on the carpet, and drawing circles. We will practice making circles to draw faces, eyes, ears, and other parts of the body!
Art/Science/Social Studies
Last week we created our first self-portraits with our Tuesday volunteer, Ms. Codi! We will continue talking about what we like about ourselves using this read-aloud:
AT-HOME PRACTICE AND TIPS
Practice name recognition by:
Showing them names of 2-3 other people in the family, and see if they can point at their own name.
Writing the first letter (see the practice pages and whiteboard marker inside your child’s "Take Home" folder). If your child is ready, they can practice writing their full name!
Practice independence by putting clothes and shoes on and off.
